The main characters of the movie, Fedor Ivanovich and Andrey Semenovich – they used to be sailors. Together they passed the war.
A few years ago friends had to leave each other: Andrey Fedorovich won a lottery and decided to go to round-the-world travel. Month after month greetings and parcels had been brought to Semenovich’s house – till an unknown girl Arina came with sad news: Andrey Fedorovich had died. Cause of cancer. Also there was no big travel in his life. So Semenych has to understand why his friend has been liing to him.
"Matryoshka" is a story of love, friendship and good food. This film is a travel journal of a cook from Britain. He goes to Moscow to get her work-based experience at a restaurant, where his friend pastry chef works. Upon his arrival, our cook looses his passport and faces a number of problems: he is coned by a taxi-driver, robbed by a random guy, and shocked by a few peculiarities of Russian life. Our lost English guy is saved by a Rusiian girl, and this particular meeting brings him to a small home-style café called Matryoshka. The person in charge is Lusya, a girl’s mother. The woman fi nds out about our cook's culinary talent and puts him behind the stove of her family’s business. Our friend combines Russian and British culinary traditions, which makes “Matryoshka” a new star of Moscow’s culinary scene. Lusya and her daughter are already making plans about the restaurant’s future as well as paying off all their depts, but it’s time for their competitors to step up, and not just the business kind, but also for our friend’s heart.
On a New Year’s Eve, Lucy Puzireva, a 26 year old English teacher meets two strange persons, Stick and Branch, on a bus stop. She starts a conversation with them, and figures they are foreigners, Irish to be exact, and they are lost. She invites them home. Lucy’s strange guests turn out to be elves from somewhere on the outskirts of Ireland, kicked out from the magic forest world by their terrible king Kron. The elven magically inclined kids bring disarray into the boring everyday life of one average citizen of one average Russian town, while as the same time they discover the peculiar details of Russian life and mentality.
One time, Stick and Branch decide to enrich their kind hostess’ life by marrying her to a young billionaire Sergei Prohorov, after finding his photo in a newspaper column about the “Most prominent Russian bachelors”. They teleport Sergei out of his luxurious apartment in London (or maybe even from the stadium during the match of personal football team) right into the far end of Russia.
Meanwhile Kron, the King of Elves, sends his good-for-nothing son Prince Rostick to find his lost servants.
And there will be a moment when all these magical and not-so much creatures meet.
In February 2020, a group of filmmakers from Moscow are going by bus on a promotional tour of their film on the Vladivostok - Sevastopol route. The house was unusual: dishes and furniture could speak here, the Cat was friends with the Mouse, and a real Brownie lived behind the stove.
But no one could even imagine that incredible adventures awaited the baby in this cute house. By order of the Waterman, Kikimora kidnapped and took him to a distant abandoned mill. Brownie, Cat and Mouse understood: only they can bring the boy home! Together with Lesovichok, friends go to the rescue. Along the way, they not only fight dark forces, but also make new friends.
